Julie And The Phantoms BookTag

Hi there friends!

Between all of the awfullness in this year one thing that was able to get my mind off everything (apart from reading) was Julie And The Phantoms on Netflix. You’ve probably heard of it, it’s basically most people on book twitter’s comfort show. It’s so so so special to me because this year’s version is actually a remake of a brazilian show I used to watch as a kid. The characters. The dialogue. The music. It’s just amazing. If you haven’t watched it yet… well, you should! Give yourself some joy.

Either way, that’s why when I encountered this booktag on Words About Words’ blog, I found the chance to yell at you folks about this show. You can check out their post on it here, the original post for the tag both from the blog creator and the boktube creator.

So, here we go. If you don’t have time to binge the show (which I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND) please at least give the songs a try first. It’s the wholesomeness we all need to end this year with the right foot.

NOW OR NEVER:

{a book at the top of your tbr}

In this case it’s The Heaviest Weight by Mariana den Hollander. I’m planning on reading this book this week. The author was nice enough to aproach me looking for a review, which I’m extremely thankful for, and the themes of body postivity from the book seem to be calling me. The book was published at the beginning of the month, so it seems to be the perfect time to get on it.

WAKE UP:

{a book you were hesitant to read}

It was Shatter Me bu Tahereh Mafi. I had tried to read a few years but at that time I couldn’t get into the writing style so I posponed it until this year. I flew through all three first book of this series once I picked this one back up again though. I had to understand that the writing style is very peculiar because we’re inside Juliette’s head and girl,,, she’s not having a great time. Once you accept this series is about the romance more than the dystipia, you can enjoy it much more.

THIS BAND IS BACK:

{a sequel that you waited a long time for}

It’s not like I had to wait A LOT to get the sequel but that time between Truly Devious and The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson felt like eternity. Johnson does cliffhangers like a godess, but in a painful way.

BRIGHT:

{a book that took you by surprise}

I didn’t expect When You Were Everything by Ashley Woodfolk to be as soulcrashingly beautiful as it was. I don’t think I should get into details. I can only tell you that this book describes the loss of a friendship and what that feels like to a t.

Check out the song.

WOW:

{an action packed book}

These are actual comic books, but I’ll go with The Walking Dead. I don’t read a lot of action packed books, but I do tend to read a lot of action drawn out to graphic novels. This one is the longest series I read. I actually finished the main saga back in January the first after arriving home from a party, not knowing what this chaos of a year had in store for us.

FLYING SOLO:

{a book with incredible friendships}

I find the friendships in Radio Silence by Alice Oseman amazing. This book discusses a lot of aspects of life in a very raw way that made me feel a lot of things, but the thing I value the most is the fact that Frances and Aled’s friendship is put front and center. Sometimes I feel like in YA romances are pushed way too often, when wholesome supportive friendships are right there.

I GOT THE MUSIC:

{a book that got you out of a reading slump}

This year, because you know, I got into a lot of reading slumps, the one that got me out of my last one, a very thick one, was It’s Not Like It’s A Secret by Misa Sugiura.

Check out the song.

UNSAID EMILY:

{a book that makes you cry}

Basically any book because I’m a very emotional person lol but if I had to choose one from this year, it would be Furia by Yamile Saied Mendez. I made a blog post about why this book speaks so much to my soul. You can red it here if you’re interested.

Check out the song.

YOU GOT NOTHING TO LOSE:

{a villain you love to hate}

Yup. I’m a Darkling stan? Or at least Darkling very confused person?

If Darkling not meant to be thirsted over then why Bardugo write That Quote and then cast Ben Barnes? HUH?

Check out the song.

STAND TALL:

{a book that gave you feels}

You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson definetly takes this one. No explanation needed, the only explanation I’m willing to give is throwing this book at you, folks.

Check out the song.

I had so much fun doing this tag, hope I yelled at you about Julie And The Phantoms enough to convince you to go watch it. If you liked the tag and you’re a fan of the show, you’re more than welcome to do it. And if you’re not a fan, then this is you chance, give it a go!

take care,

-vic

  1. Damn! I’ve never seen that cover of Shatter Me before! I’ve only ever seen the eye, and pretty as the cover was, the actual book was one of my least favourites of all time 😟 I think it was something about the romance; I’ve never been the biggest fan if romance to begin with, and the way it was written did nothing to earn credit 😅 Does it get better as the book goes on? I only read up until about halfway, so maybe it gets better.Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy The Heaviest Weight 😊💙

    1. oh no I’m just now seeing your comment (the one from december, it’s been 84 years lol), but yes!!!! the show is amazing and truly the light that was need in 2020. And same, I love tags that have questions that genuinely align with the theme, it’s fun. Plus, it’s a great excuse to revisit the awesome songs.
      hope you do the tag!

      1. Haha it’s totally okay. I knowwww I love it so much. Just finished rewatching episode 5 with my family (clearly the worst episode for so many reasons).
        What’s your favorite episode and song and character?
        I think I will do the tag but it prob won’t be out until like March or later. Sorry about that!

      2. Flynn’s awesome. My favorite character is Willie, he’s just so innocent and sad and Caleb, like, owns his soul but all he wants to do is help Alex and the rest of the band and just the fact that he’d do so much for Alex is adorable. He’s so sweet. Haha sorry that was a long explination. I’d agree that Edge of Great is the best song. I sing it so much that my sister HATES it now because of the number of times I’ve sang it and will yell at the top of her lungs when I start singing/playing it till I stop. And she’s only watched through episode 5, hasn’t even gotten to the song yet!!!
